What are the side effects of Uniprim Powder for Horses?
There is a risk for antibiotic-associated diarrhea or colic. There is a risk for injection site discomfort, swelling, and tissue damage with intramuscular (IM) or under the skin (SQ) injections. High doses have been reported to cause altered bacterial flora resulting in large intestinal inflammation, abnormal stool, reduced appetite, weight loss, and inactivity. All antibiotics have the potential to cause an overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. All injectable medications have the potential to cause an immediate allergic or anaphylactic reaction. Affected animals may have a swelling, hives, changes in respiration, and display signs of agitation. This can be a severe and life threatening reaction; immediate treatment with epinephrine is often required.
There is a risk for a short period of pruritus (itchiness) after IV injections.
This medication can affect the circulating blood cells causing an anemia (low red blood cells), a thrombocytopenia (low platelets), or a leukopenia (low white blood cells).
Notify your veterinarian immediately if your horse experiences any adverse reactions to this medication

How can I store Uniprim Powder for Horses?
Store at or below 25°C (77°F)
Water should be readily available to horses receiving sulfonamide therapy
Dosage and Administration
The recommended dosage is 3.75 g per 110 lbs
(50 kg) body weight per day. Administer orally
once a day in a small amount of palatable feed.
One 37.5 g packet is sufficient to treat 1100 lbs
(500 kg) body weight daily.
Two level, loose-filled scoops contain 37.5 g and
treat 1100 lbs (500 kg) body weight daily.
Adjusted dose is 1 teaspoon per 100 lbs.
The usual course of treatment is a single, daily
dose for 5-10 days.
Water should be readily available during
treatment.
