Ondansetron, commonly known by the brand name Zofran, is used in dogs and cats to treat a variety of conditions with the most common being vomiting. It can be particularly effective for treating chemotherapy associated-vomiting. It can also be used to treat sleep-apnea and pruritus (itching) in some pets. Available in a 40mg/20ml (2mg/ml), 20 ml injectable multidose vial.

Ondansetron is a drug that selectively inhibits serotonin 5HT3 receptors. 5HT3 receptors are located on vagal nerve terminals, enteric neurons in the GI tract, and centrally in the brain in a region called the chemoreceptor trigger zone.

What are the side effects of Ondansetron Injection 40 mg/20 ml (2 mg/ml), 20 ml vial?
This medication is not frequently used in veterinary medicine, but it appears to be well tolerated. Side effects such as constipation, sedation, extrapyramidal clinical signs (head shaking), arrhythmias and hypotension are possible. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.

Keep away from children and animals. Ondansetron should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to the drug.
